Riga City Council's forestry management company, Rigas Mezi (Riga Forests), aims to increase the volume of processed roundwood by 2022, the company's CEO Aivars Taurins said, as quoted by the Baltic Course.
The company manages around 62,000 hectares of forest and parks in Riga. According to the Baltic Course, at the moment, Rigas Mezi processes about 25% of the roundwood harvested, while the rest is sold. Rigas Mezi plans to increase the volume processed to 40% by 2022.
According to the Baltic Course, the company will purchase advanced production equipment for Norupe sawmill and also intends to start production of wood chip pellets in the future. Rigas Mezi also intends to start selling heat energy produced by the company.
In 2016, Rigas Mezi posted EUR 14.95 million in turnover and EUR 227,704 in profit.
