The new standard addresses critical issues in Australia’s forests, including high conservation values (HCVs) and Indigenous Peoples rights.

Stakeholders representing the interests of the forest industry, the environment, and local communities worked together to develop the standard and define responsible forest management in Australia.

Australia’s forests cover 16 per cent of the land with 124.7 million hectares. Three percent of the world’s forests grow in the country, which in turn represents 5 per cent of the world’s land area.

The new national standard becomes effective 10 February 2019.
